What is the Digital Conversion Campaign?

The movie industry is going digital and we won’t be able to show new movies on our existing system.  The cost of converting to a digital system is $50,000 - more than Fred and Valerie can come up with on their own. We’re looking to the community to help keep the Concrete Theatre alive.

When is the change expected to happen?
Some movie studios are already beginning to change, producing fewer 35 mm films and more digital ones. Many of the larger theaters and multiplexes have already converted to digital systems, too, meaning there are fewer films to circulate to those of us in smaller theaters. We anticipate that in 2013 it will be nearly impossible for us to get our hands on 35 mm prints. The bottom line: if we don’t convert to a digital system, there will be no more movies at the Concrete Theatre.

First, our heartfelt thanks to those of you who’ve already stepped forward to help with our digital conversion. We appreciate your support and generous donations.

There are lots of ways that the whole community to help, from DONATIONS, to BUYING A THEATRE SEAT OR LOBBY STAR to holding a fundraiser on the Theatre’s behalf.

We’re also open to ideas and suggestions on ways to raise the funds we need to keep the Concrete Theatre alive for our current movie-goers and future generations.
